Kanani is a Mrs. . .

I hardly ever blog (really facebook is more for me, blogging just takes too much time) except when something really important happens. I guess this qualifies. Our little girl is now married and on her way to finding out what life really is all about. Here's a few pictures for those of you who don't do facebook.

That's all I can do for now.  Three little boys are demanding my attention!

Birthdays

We have a busy birthday month starting 8/30 with Ethan's birthday.  Then comes my brother Lafe on 9/8, David on 9/10, Kepa on 9/16 and Anthony on 9/21/09. We started off pretty good with Ethan's birthday (racetrack cake, family b-day get together) but my party skills got worse and worse with each birthday.  For Lafe we babysat so they could go out on the town.  But he had no cake or ice cream.

David got a hurried sheet cake not the monster truck cake I wanted to create.

Kepa got pudding cups with whipped cream.

Anthony had nothing, no cake.  I think he won't remember much of is first 2-1/2 years.

Now I just have to fake some pictures.

happy birthday to my boys (belated with lots of love)

My Life with Boys

Ethan - 6 years old, full of energy, fun and laughter but also a little neurotic with a tendancy to freak out at unexpected times. Comes home everyday covered in red dirt, bruises on his knees and a smile on his face. Especially funny are the days he hides in the bushes and barks like a dog to surprise people. Only boys think of these kinds of things to do. Er visits = 2, stitches = 9 (four in his forehead and 5 in his lip). Loves bugs, digging in the dirt, his big friend Brian who took him to ward camp, his flashlight under the covers, and all things boy.
David - 4 years old, full of mischief, jokes, and naughtiness but good-hearted and lovable. Can we all say principal's office? He's not in "real school" yet but he's been in trouble at preschool more times than I'd like him to be. In explaination for his unique behavior we just say, "you know how David is" because there is really no other answer for a boy who looks you straight in the face while he throws the ball over the fence or rips a page in a book, or breaks his elbow while rolling down the ramp that is for set up for walking up, or goes to school in his underwear and no shorts or goes to school with shorts and no underwear, or wiggles his front tooth until it comes out even though it should be there until at least age six. We often say, "It's David" and people that know him understand. But really to know him is to love him. He is like a big cuddlly teady bear who doesn't know his own strengthen and if angry will dig his toenails into your foot. So far 2 trips to the ER but I'm expecting many more.
Anthony - 2 years old, sweet, mellow, my angel who makes everything worthwhile. He never complains, hardly ever cries or grumbles. His laugh is infectious and his smile is so cute. He is just learning to fight back against David. So when he's pulling David's hair, it's so hard to scold him. On the rare occasion that he is scolded, he quickly stops what he's doing and cries silently. Have you ever seen a baby who cries cutely? That's Anthony. He's learning to talk often copies Sariah his constant playmate.
It's so fun to be their Mommy and share their lives. I can't wait for the next 16 years (that's how long it will be until Anthony graduates). They enrich my life, they bless me everyday. I am so lucky to be their Mommy and so very happy to have them as my sons.

It's been one year

I haven't blogged for so long I think I've forgotten how to do this so please bear with me. I think I do this more for myself than for any other reason. I'm so bad at this that I can't even post pictures.
Last week was the one year anniversary of Kawika's passing. It was such a terrible time and really such an awful year. We were already under so much stress and pressure at the time before his death. Kanani was gone away to school. Something I wanted more than anything for her. She need so badly to get away from Hawaii and from the negative experiences of high school that I wanted her to go away for her but for me I really wanted her to stay. I needed so much help with the boys, the house, our routine. She had been more of a mother to them than I had those 4 years since we had Ethan. So anyway, she leaves and the next month we added Anthony (who I love dearly). I did not know how to manage the 3 kids, the house, my calling, and all my work hours. I must be crazy to think I could work 70 to 80 hours a week on top of being a mommy but I did and I still do. So since 2007 Kepa and I have been running on empty and running crazy. We kept thinking things would get better but instead he decided to remodel the house and put in a new yard. How much stress could one family take?
Then Kawika and it seemed everything was just different. . . Kepa was different, our lives were different. I felt like I was on autopilot all the time and I was exsisting to get through the day and if I could make it though that day then I'd have to face the next one. There were so many people to take care of too, so many raw emotions, so many hearts to heal. I could feel Kepa checking out, just being but not living. Something big died in Kepa that day. I could never imagine how it feels to lose a brother and for Kepa I know he felt he failed in a huge way. As the oldest boy in a family were life was about surviving, he had great responsibility and he just could not bear to lose his younger brother. It is so hard to understand the toil it takes on a person.
So now we've hit the one year mark. Are things different? Are things not so hard? Have we moved on? I would have to say things are buried, things are pretended, things are hard.

Facebook

To all my non-facebook friends and family. Here's a plea from me to get on it already. I can't keep up the blogging. For the obvious reason, I'm really, really bad at it. I'm technically challenged. And the worst of all, my computer is blocking my photos. So if you can't see how beautiful I am, what's the point! Try it, you might like it. I can post plenty pictures of the kiddos and I don't have to write anything. You can just view my photo albums, if you're lucky there will be a short caption, you can leave a comment or two if you feel like it. We can throw snowballs at each other and give little gifts. See you don't even know what I'm talking about because you're not on facebook. But you can find us all (Kanani, Kaleo, Makalapua. . . NOT Kepa).

On another note, I saw Cam on the news singing. So awesome. I know someone famous.

Love you guys. We are so lucky to have a great family!

20 Years Married!

I figured I better write something today of all days. It's our 20th anniversary. . . where did the time go? We've been caught up in living a full and happy life. Being together for 22 years has had it's ups and downs but through it all we've stuck it out and excepted the truth that comes from really knowing someone elses heart and soul. There's no such thing as a perfect marriage and ours is far from that but there is true love. When you can overlook each other's faults, put the other person's wants and needs first, and forgive easily then 20 years is like a blink of an eye. Here's what 20 years of marriage can give you. A happy, loving family filled with love, laughter, and living life to the fullest. One beautiful, amazing, sweet, independent daughter who loves living far away. Three cute, exhausting, fearless, young boys. And one handsome, kind, loving, strong, thoughtful, man.
Kanani, our Beauty with her "twin" Baby Anthony

The Fearless Ones

The one I love now and forever!!

I realized Kepa and I have no pictures of just the two of us. I guess now days we're never alone. But that's okay. What would we have done with ourselves if we only had Kanani (traveling the world, sleeping in on Saturdays, relaxing evenings watching the sunset, and enjoying candlelight dinners comes to mind). We can do those things in about 8 years when the boys are 9, 11, 13 or in 17 years when they're 18, 20, 22. By then Kanani will be 37. The age we are now! Kepa and I often ask ourselves what were we thinking having such a big age gap but it works wonderfully for us. Kanani has always been such a blessing and has kept us focused and on track (I thought that was supposed to be my job) but she's always been so intune to what Heavenly Father wants for us and made us listen. If it wasn't for her a lot of things in life would be different. Now with the three boys our family is complete. With each pregnancy after Kanani, Kepa would say, "A boy, we're having a boy." He always wanted 3 boys and I'm just lucky enough to be along for the ride.
